children's books about the library

I may be biased, but as a children’s librarian, I love children’s books about the library. They’re wonderful and magical books about a wonderful and magical place. Your kids will love the library more and more each time they read a new book about it!

Forest friends love their one book, but when they find Bear’s house full of books, they may find themselves breaking some rules.

The New LiBEARian by Alison Donald

It’s a short book, but it’s a cute one. Baby Bear from Goldilocks and the Three Bears replaces the librarian during storytime. Goldilocks may make an appearance as well.

Make Way for Readers by Judy Sierra

This rhyming story is so fun! Miss Bingo, the flamingo librarian, leads the little animals in storytime. There’s also a reference to Miss Muffet, which is the perfect excuse to introduce the Little Miss Muffet nursery rhyme.

If You Ever Want to Bring a Circus to the Library, Don’t! by Elise Parsley

8 Picture Books About the Library for Kids

It’s kind of like If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. Don’t ever bring a circus to the library because a bunch of bad things WILL happen!

The Night Library by David Zeltser

The library is truly a magical place – if you don’t believe me, check out this beautiful book by David Zeltser.

Good Night, Library by Denise Brennan-Nelson

Say goodnight to the library! This sweet book is perfect for introducing library spaces (and it’s a great bedtime book).

The Library Book by Tom Chapin

8 Picture Books About the Library for Kids

Based on the song by Tom Chapin, “Library Song,” this cute library book is all about going to the library and picking out a book.

Bunny’s Book Club by Annie Silvestro

A sweet book about a bunny and his woodland creature friends who love storytime at the library!

Chapter Books About the Library

Finding Langston by Lesa Cline-Ransome

Taking place in Chicago during the year 1946. Langston is feeling lonely in the big city after moving from the south. Finding the local library may just help Langston feel as though he’s not quite as alone as he thought.

Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library by Chris Grabenstein

This may be the most obvious choice for a chapter book about the library, but, in case you haven’t come across this series yet, I highly recommend it! It makes the library Fun, FUn, FUN!

Library of Souls: The Third Novel of Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

This is the third book in the Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children book, and it’s definitely a series that needs to be read in order. But, once you’ve read the first two, this is such a unique take on libraries and adventure.

How to Disappear Completely and Never Be Found by Sara Nickerson

This book. If you have kids who love creepy, scary books, I highly recommend this one. Mr. Librarian is the narrator of this story about a girl searching for the truth about her dad who passed away.

The Librarian of Auschwitz by Antonio Iturbe and translated by Lilit Thwaites

Dita is a fourteen-year-old girl who risked her life to be the caretaker for the few books in Auschwitz.

Welcome! I'm Jaime, and I'm so happy you're here to learn, play, and read with me!

I'm a children's librarian in the midwest. I have a Master's in Library Science, with a Youth Services specialization. I like to think of myself as a professional reader of children's books, a sensory enthusiast, and a play activist. Which is great for working with children because kids' days are full of learning and playing (and in my dream world, reading books)!

I hope you're able to find some inspiration for teaching the littles in your life!
