May 31, 2018 by Librarian

Unicorns are all the rage right now, if you haven’t noticed. Check out my list of five picture books every unicorn lover should own because these books are AMAZING. Seriously, I love these books. Not only are these my top five favorite unicorn books, but they’re also some of my favorite books ever.

Five Picture Books Every Unicorn Lover Should Own

Thelma the Unicorn by Aaron Blabey

Five Picture Books Every Unicorn Lover Should Own

Thelma is a donkey who wants very badly to be a unicorn. One day, her wish comes true and she becomes a famous unicorn. But, she realizes, that friends are more important than fame. THIS IS MY FAVORITE! It’s so sweet, and it gives kids an insight into celebrity life in a non-controversial way. Even my preschool boys wanted to take it home to read!

You Don’t Want a Unicorn! By Ame Dyckman

Five Picture Books Every Unicorn Lover Should Own

A little boy thinks he wants one of these magical creatures for a pet until he actually gets one. It sheds glitter everywhere, constantly poops cupcakes, gets its horn stuck in precarious places, and invites lots of friends over. It’s such a funny and sweet book that parents will especially appreciate.

Uni the Unicorn by Amy Krouse Rosenthal

Five Picture Books Every Unicorn Lover Should Own

Uni strongly believes that little girls are real, despite what everyone tells her. Sound like a little girl you know? Kids will fall in love with the idea that unicorns are out there believing little girls are real even though everyone tell them they’re not.

Not Quite Narwhal by Jessie Sima

Five Picture Books Every Unicorn Lover Should Own

This book is so, so, so adorable. This little guy grew up with narwhals, thinking he is a narwhal. But he wonders why he can’t swim as fast as his family or breathe underwater like his family. After a journey to find himself, he [spoiler] ends up finding his own kind – unicorns. It’s hands-down one of my FAVORITE  books ever!

Unicorn Thinks He’s Pretty Great by Bob Shea

Five Picture Books Every Unicorn Lover Should Own

Unicorn is used to being the coolest guy around. Goat shows up, however, and ends up being cooler than him. Can they be friends at the end of the day? You know it’s a great book because it’s by Bob Shea, and Bob Shea is amazing.

Welcome! I'm Jaime, and I'm so happy you're here to learn, play, and read with me!

I'm a children's librarian in the midwest. I have a Master's in Library Science, with a Youth Services specialization. I like to think of myself as a professional reader of children's books, a sensory enthusiast, and a play activist. Which is great for working with children because kids' days are full of learning and playing (and in my dream world, reading books)!

I hope you're able to find some inspiration for teaching the littles in your life!
